Vortex flowmeter is a volume flowmeter that measures the volume flow of gas, steam or liquid, the volume flow or mass flow of standard temperature and pressure according to Karman's vortex principle. It is mainly used for the flow measurement of industrial pipeline medium fluid, such as gas, liquid, steam and other media. It is characterized by small pressure loss, large measuring range and high precision, and it is almost unaffected by parameters such as fluid density, pressure, temperature and viscosity when measuring volume flow under working conditions. There are no moving mechanical parts, so the reliability is high and the maintenance is small. Instrument parameters can be stable for a long time. The vortex flowmeter adopts piezoelectric stress sensor, which has high reliability and can work in the working temperature range of -20C~+260C. There are analog standard signals and digital pulse signals, which are easy to be used with digital systems such as computers. It is an advanced and ideal measuring instrument.
 

principle of operation

Vortex flowmeter is a flow meter which uses Karman vortex principle to measure steam, gas and low viscosity liquid. When the fluid flows through the vortex generator placed perpendicular to the flow direction of the measured medium, two rows of vortices are alternately generated on both sides behind it, which is called Carmen vortex street, as shown in Figure 1 above. In a certain Reynolds number range (2x104~7x 106), the frequency f generated by the vortex has the following relations with the average velocity v of the medium and the width d of the oncoming surface of the vortex generator: F = where f=St is Strouhal number, which is a dimensionless constant, and it is about 0.15~0.22 when ReD=2x 104~7x 106. The average flow velocity V can be calculated by detecting the frequency f generated by the screw-up, so as to determine the volume flow in the pipeline: QV=A*V, where A is the cross-sectional area of the pipeline.
